LEARN MORE

Haviland & Co was founded in 1842 by David Haviland, a merchant originally from New York. Impressed by the beauty and quality of Limoges porcelain, he wanted to import it to the United States. To do so, he set up a workshop in Limoges to decorate the pieces in styles that would be more suitable for America. Later, he set up his own tableware factory, pioneering manufacturing and decoration techniques. The pieces made in Limoges were sometimes later decorated in Paris where the artists added their stamp.
