Antique silver-plated metal toast rack from England. Two similar pieces available.
The piece was manufactured by Elkington & Co., one of Birmingham's most prestigious silversmiths, founded in 1836 and a pioneer in the technique of electroplating. The design of the stamp identifying the company dates its production to the early 20th century.

The toast rack was invented in the late 18th century, during the Georgian era. Made of silver or silver-plated metal, they were designed with arched compartments to keep the slices separate and ensure they arrived at the table still crisp, without the steam softening them.
